Landshark

Landshark Lager is an American beer brewed by the Maragaritaville Brewing Company.

From what I understand Landshark is Jimmy Buffett’s beer and that Maragaritaville Brewing Company is basically just Anheuser-Busch. Landshark is billed as an “island style lager” (whatever the fuck that means). It has a bright golden color and makes a great head when poured. There isn’t much of a smell except the slight hint of hops, which gives it a very subtle, floral sent. The taste is smooth and even with a clean finish, though somewhat bland, but would be well accompanied with a slice of lime. The low alcohol content makes this a very drinkable beer, but the taste is just too much like all the other Anheuser-Busch to be a real standout.

Though this beer is lacking in any real substance, there is something to be said for it’s great drinkability, and is probably one of the best Anheuser-Busch beers I’ve had. If you like American style, or island style (still have no idea what the fuck that means) beers then give this a go. You will probably like it a lot. For me though it’s too bland with no real substance.

Xingu

Xingu

My latest exotic beer is Xingu. Xingu is a Brazilian beer so I had the assumption it would just taste like coffee.

Xingu is thick and black. Just to call it black would be an understatement. Let’s put it this way, no light will pass through this beer. The initial smell is typical of black beers, very smokey and earthy, but this is where the similarities stop. The taste is bitter, but only slightly. Xingu is not as robust as other black beers. It is, however, much more mild, to my astonishment and liking. The flavor is balanced and smooth with a great finish.

I am not a huge fan of black beers but this is one of the best I’ve had. The higher than normal alcohol content coupled with a smooth mild taste make it a perfect winter beer, or a great candidate for the black half of a black and tan. If you’re into the black beers I highly recommend this one. You won’t be dissapointed.

Pilsner Urquell

PilserUrquell

Pilsner Urquell is the first beer I’m reviewing.

Pilsner Urquell is brewed in Pilsen in the Czech Republic. It is clear, bright, and golden in color with a wonderful citrus/lime sent. It has a mild hop flavor with a slightly bitter, but satisfying finish. The taste is a little bland at first, but has great drinkability.

Having a Czech upbringing, and trying many different beers from that region, the taste is familiar to me. This is a good beer but there is nothing that stands out among the many beers with this same taste. If the taste was a little more robust and not so bland it could have made a better impression on me.

Welcome to 98Bottles!

Each week (or sooner depending) I’ll be reviewing a different, sometimes exotic beer from the laymans point of view. I am in no way a qualified beer expert, just a guy who really loves beer.

For the first few weeks I’ll be doing a content flood so updates will be frequent. Subscribing to the E-Mail/RSS feeds are great ways to keep up.
