Anglers Pale Ale

Anglers Pale Ale

My brew for this week comes from the Uinta Brewing Company in Utah. There is a large fish on the front and it is billed as a brew for the outdoor enthusiast, and by outdoor enthusiast I’m guessing they mean fisherman.

Anglers Pale ale is quite dark for a pale ale with a mild, amber, orange color. You can pick up on the hops, in the aroma, but they are way overshadowed by the very bright citrus smell. It kinda reminds me of lemon scented Joy dish detergent, and that’s not a good thing. There is a very heavy lemon taste to this beer as well, oh and that smell of lemon scented Joy is back but this time you’re drinking it. Still, not a good thing. The only other flavor I can get other than lemon scented Joy is bitter. It’s not overly bitter but it just doesn’t go well with Joy dish detergent, not that I can think of anything that would go well with it. It is 5.8% alcohol, so it’s not too heavy and easy to drink.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just not outdoorsie enough for this beer. Maybe if I sat on a boat all day and drank this it would appeal to me. There are just too many things wrong with this beer. I have no problem with citrus beers. In fact during the summer months I actually prefer them. But the bland beer taste that is masked by dish soap just doesn’t do it. I’m not saying you can’t drink it. I just wouldn’t

This is a great beer. I am trying to find a way to get some more without having to drive to Utah. the drive is not out of the question as this is probably one of the best beers I’ve had in a long time. As for the lemon plege smell (or was it lemon joy) if you keep your big nose out of the beer and drink it, I’m sure you will enjoy it.
