Colomba

Colomba is brewed by Brasserie Pietra in France. This is the first French beer I’ve ever had so I’m not sure what to expect, but the angry, hooded chick on the bottle seems a little out of place.
Colomba is a wheat beer and has a very faint, cloudy, yellow color. The head it makes when poured is amazing. It’s very fluffy and substantial. Being a wheat beer there is a distinct floral aroma. At first taste I immediately think this beer would benefit from a slice of lemon. It’s just too bland. There is no real substance to the flavor. Nothing to play on your palette. It is rather light and easy drinking, at 5% alcohol content, but that hardly makes up for the lack of flavor. There is a little bit or bitterness in the finish but I guess that’s just to remind you that you do in fact have a beer in your hand.
My first impression of French beer is not that great. This is just a let down of a wheat beer. What started out well with a great head and wonderful smell basically ended there. This is not a bad beer. It doesn’t make you cringe when you drink it or grimace at every swallow, and some may actually like it a lot. I can see this as a beer for people who like milder, less flavorful beers and know there are people like that out there. Somebody is buying all that Miller Lite.
