Kosmos Reserve

Kosmos Reserve is a limited offering from the little brewery in Shiner, Texas. You can only find this beer in the Shiner Family Reunion six packs and there is only one per pack so if you want a few of these you’ll either have to buy multiple six packs or be a total bastard, swap a few around and screw over your fellow beer drinkers. (I do not recommend this!)
Kosmos Reserve has a lightly malted hop scent. It has an amber color that leans more to red than brown. First taste is very smooth with some floral tones to complement the malted hops. There is a slight bit of bitterness in the aftertaste and overall the beer is somewhat dry. I can’t help but think this beer was the starting point for the Shiner 99 I previously reviewed. At first I thought it was the exact same beer but there are subtle qualities that break them apart. The alcohol content is is probably somewhere around 5 – 5.5%, but I couldn’t find a definite on that.
Kosmos Reserve is a re-released brew from nearly 100 years ago and I honestly can’t think of any reason why they stopped making it in the first place. Kosmos Spotzel was a master at his craft and this beer is a true example of that. It’s a shame that Shiner doles out it’s best beers in limited runs. It would be a shame to see this beer not get brought back as a permanent addition to Shiner’s other great offerings.

When can I buy this by the box? It’s a great beer.
